Japanese Indigo seeds, persicaria tinctoria, also known as polygonum tinctorium
An indigo bearing plant which is easy to grow in colder climates such as Canada and the US. A green, leafy plant which will grow up to 3 feet tall and produces a small pink or white flower. Leaves can be harvested several times a season for use a variety of fresh leaf indigo processes, or dried to use later. Yields gorgeous soft blues and green blues which are very colourfast.
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, harden off before planting out 1 foot apart.
Grows best in fertile soil and full sun - water well once a week. Also does well in containers but should be watered daily. Pinching out the tips when 8 inches tall will result in a bushier plant with more leaves to harvest.
These seeds are from the 2023 harvest, for planting in 2024.
